The other day, I went for a walk in Prospect Park with my good friend Zoe. Here is Zoe doing what she does best: Being cute.

Though her talents are many, we spent a good deal of time perfecting the art of making wishes on Dandelions.

And since Prospect Park is in full bloom, we also made sure to pay attention to the non-wishable flora…

…all while being just adorable.

A good time was had by all. I think this photo sums up our adventure.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching Zoe grow over the past few months as she is a Four Seasons book client. Four Season Books are year-long projects that include a minimum of four sessions which are then compiled into a personalized photography book. The resulting product is a beautiful and unique portrayal of a year in the life of your child. Smile

I don’t know about everybody else, but this warm weather makes me smile. I mean, a really big smile. Kind of like this:

That smile belongs to Bear whose people foster Molly and Katiya for See Spot Rescued. I had a session with Bear and his sister Kiya last week. During the session, Molly took on the role of photographer’s assistant and even managed to take a photo on her own. Yes, Molly…the dog…took a photo. And you know what? It’s not half bad! Here, you can see for yourself.

Bear (and his smile) are not adoptable, but Molly and Katiya ARE both still available for adoption (yes, you can have your very own photo-snapping dog). For more information on them, email seespotrescued@gmail.com. I don’t know about you, but I’m headed outside!

Fantastic Flying Fido Foto Friday 03/16/2012

We’ve seen the fully outstretched state of airborn-ness, but this week, we focus on another stage of flight: The Throw All Four Legs Together To The Point Where It Looks Like You Could Possibly Tangle Them All Up Position. Ok, so it may need a shorter name than that, but it will do for now. Our demo dog this week is Jacob, a wonderful young lab mix, and guess what! He’s adoptable!

Jacob was rescued from a shelter in the South by Eva Armstrong who runs Eva’s Play Pups, (a Doggie Daycare, Boarding, Walking, you name it business) and works with Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. When Jacob isn’t busy showing off his awesome flying technique, he’s busy looking like the jolliest pup there ever was.

Spring

It seems as though spring has arrived a little earlier than expected! That’s something I think we can all smile about, right, Charlotte?

It’s time to get outside! Maybe spend some time with a giant tree.

Or have a peaceful moment by oneself taking in all that mother nature has to offer.

You could even just RUN!

Did we mention, running? Hey, wait, where are you going?

She’s off to enjoy spring. I don’t blame her!

Fantastic Flying Fido Foto Friday 2/24/12

Some dogs are just built to fly. Take the Bull Terrier, for example, with its egg…er…aerodynamic…head. Bentley and Bitsy are a Bull Terrier brother and sister duo, and they are proud to show you their profiles to give you a better idea of what I’m talking about.

And here Bentley shows off his flying skills. You can almost see the air streamlining over his head, can’t you? Yes, I’m sure you can.

Bitsy also has incredible skills in flight, but prefers to show them off a little closer to the camera…maybe a little too close…

…but you get the idea.

When Bentley and Bitsy aren’t busy flying around the yard, they can be found spending time relaxing around the house, though I have a feeling these two were models in a past life, as they are ready to be photographed at any moment. Bentley poses, excuse me, lounges in his favorite leather chair.

And Bitsy, well, that face just speaks for itself. Doggie Vogue, eat your heart out.

Westminster

I’ve been to more than my fair share of horse shows in my life and seen them from every angle: as a competitor, a groom working behind the scenes, and lastly, as the photographer. But I had yet to set foot anywhere near a dog show before this Monday.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Westminster on TV, but it’s been a long time dream of mine to see it in person, and this year, that dream came true. I really wanted to go behind the scenes to the benching area where all of the dogs are prepped for their big moment in the ring. The dogs, crates, and grooming stations were to be expected, but the number of people in the area was not. At times it was hard to locate a dog at all amongst the crowd, but then, all of a sudden, a little face would beckon, “Here I am! You can’t NOT look at me!”

Even the most hidden of canines manages to grab your attention.

And, of course, you can’t miss the ones you almost bump into.

The bond between the dogs and their people is clear and half the reason I think these dogs can keep their cool in the most chaotic of circumstances, though at times it’s hard to tell who is comforting whom…

A Standard Poodle stands as still as a topiary as a few stray hairs are trimmed.

I took a break from the benching area to watch the French Bulldogs and Akitas. The atmosphere in the arena is fun but increasingly tense as the judges come closer to making their picks. And when all is said and done, the winners picked, the dogs leave the excitement of the show ring (sometimes with their human doppelganger).

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Westminster, but was happy to come home and watch the rest of the show from the comfort of my couch next to The Bandit who watched the TV so intensely, I think he was perhaps doing some judging of his own.

Fantastic Flying Fido Foto Friday 01/20/12

This week’s Flying Fido Feature is a lesson in Flying Fido Form. Here, Thorton demonstrates the proper oustretched position.

This position has proven to be incredibly effective for those trying to maximize the state of being airborn. Notice how both front and back legs are completely outstretched putting aerodynamics to work. The ears are relaxed, allowing them to act as wings. The face is happy, creating an uplifting spirit.

Thank you Thorton for demonstrating such exemplary Flying Fido Form. That concludes this week’s lesson.

Fantastic Flying Fido Foto Friday 1/13/12

Our Fantatastic Flying Fido for this Friday is a wonderful little dachshund named Ellie. Ellie, could you come a little closer please?

Ellie and her canine siblings had a session with me last Sunday in Prospect Park. The trio provided a lot of good mid-air material as you’ll see in future Friday posts, but Ellie really had the hover perfected.

Don’t let those little legs fool you, they’re packed with power. Here she is with her sister Bug whom she enjoys chasing after the ball with.

Bugs’s long legs may give her a slight advantage, but that doesn’t stop Ellie from trying. And every now and then, her efforts pay off.
